Frequently Asked Questions

What is a feed?

A feed can also be called an RSS feed, RSS document, or web feed. A feed contains the newest content from a website (e.g. today's top news from the NY Times, recent blog posts from techcrunch.com). Rather than manually checking your favorite websites to read the newest content, you "subscribe" to the feeds from those websites and read them all in one place: a feed reader.

Subscribing to a feed involves adding that feed to a feed reader (easy, but varies per reader). Many feed readers exist; Google Reader, My Yahoo, Netvibes, and Bloglines are some examples. The feed reader will automatically check all your feeds for new content and download any updates. So now you only need to go to your feed reader to stay updated on all your favorite websites!

How do MeeSlice feeds differ from the typical feed?

The feeds you create on MeeSlice are a slight variation of a typical feed. Each of our feeds generally contain the newest content from numerous websites (rather than a single website). Also, our feeds' content is defined by your interests (rather than dictated by the website). For example, if you create and subscribe to a feed on 'skydiving', we will send your feed reader skydiving content from a wide range of websites. Of course the flexibility to make a feed from a single or specific website of your choice is still available.

MeeSlice feeds work in all feed readers. We have provided convenient buttons on the page for you to add the feeds you create to your favorite feed reader.

Where does MeeSlice get its contents?

MeeSlice aggregates articles and postings from millions of news and blog sites around the web. We primarily focus on recent articles, so you won't find standard web results here. Our collection of sites is constantly expanding to bring you more, better coverage of the changing web. If you would like to help us expand more quickly, please submit a site.

How frequently are the MeeSlice feeds updated?

MeeSlice is constantly crawling new articles. We update our system's collection of articles very frequently, usually a few dozen times a day.

Why hasn't my MeeSlice feed changed in the past few days?

Although MeeSlice updates our collection of articles almost every hour, we cannot guarantee that those updates will be reflected in your feeds. Certain topics have fewer articles written about them on the web than others, so it is possible not to see a new article for a few weeks. For example, I have a feed on the "SF Flower Mart" and only see new articles about once a month, but as soon as there is news, I know about it!
